As winter fades into spring, there is a sense of renewal, with blooming trees, and flowers, longer days, and the refreshing tasks of spring cleaning and gardening. It’s also the perfect time to swap out our heavy winter layers for lighter, spring styles. In this blog post, I like to dive into the top spring trends for 2025 and share how women over 50 can incorporate them into their wardrobes.
There are plenty of exciting trends to explore, but I’ll be focusing on five that really stood out to me. Before hitting the store, take a quick look in your closet as you might already have some of these trends. Let’s get started..
Oversized Trench Coats
Oversized trench coats are a key trend for spring 2025, offering a chic and versatile option for transitional weather. While there are many ways to style an oversized trench coat—from casual to office-ready—I prefer a fitted trench coat, which achieves a similar polished look. For a casual outfit, pair a trench coat with slim-fit jeans or trousers to maintain balance, and add ankle boots along with a knit top or turtleneck for a refined finish. Style the coat with tailored pants, a classic blouse, and a silk scarf to introduce texture for an office-ready ensemble. Here are a couple of my favorites:
Pastels
Pastels such as pink and blush shades are taking center stage this season. If pink or blush tones aren’t your style, why stop there? Soft shades like lavender, mint green, and buttery yellow are perfect for adding a refreshing twist. Incorporate these hues into your wardrobe through blouses, dresses, or chic accessories like scarves and handbags. Pair pastels with neutral tones such as beige, white, or gray to create a polished look.
Sheer Overlays
This trend is all about embracing sheer fabrics for a bold, airy, and elegant look. Sheer clothing can be styled in many ways. For a neutral sheer piece for a casual day outfit, I like a black blouse, I love to layer it with a striped shirt underneath, then:
- Pair it with Denim: A sheer-sleeve blouse works perfectly with well-fitting jeans.
- Add Comfortable Footwear: Sneakers or flats are great options for a laid-back look.
- Keep Accessories Simple: A pendant necklace adds a subtle touch, letting the sheer blouse be the star of the outfit.
Here are a few of my favorites that I discovered on the website.

Stripes
Stripes are, in my opinion, a timeless wardrobe staple. Whether it’s pinstripes, nautical stripes, rugby stripes, or anything in between, they effortlessly transition from casual to formal, making them a versatile addition to any closet. When wearing stripes, I like to make them the focal point. For a casual office look, here’s how I style them with a striped blouse:
- Blazer: opt for a blazer in a neutral color like navy, black, or beige.
- Bottoms: Pair the stripes with tailored trousers.
- Footwear: Complete the look with flats.

Soft Florals
When I think of florals, I think back to a time when movie scenes often featured living rooms or kitchens with floral-patterned walls. This season, florals are making a bold statement with vibrant colors and abstract designs. Here are a few floral blouses that inspire me. However, I’ll look through my closet to see if I have anything similar. A floral blouse can be paired in various ways:
- With neutral trousers and loafers. I am thinking more of an office look for this one.
- Tucked into a midi skirt with ankle boots.
- Layered under a blazer with dark jeans.
- With straight-leg jeans and a cardigan, paired with flats.

Conclusion
The Spring 2025 trends show timeless elegance with a modern twist, showcasing flowy, relaxed silhouettes, pastel shades, and light, airy fabrics. As a woman over 50, I find this a great way to incorporate these trends into my style, emphasizing comfort, and discovering these pieces at other budget-friendly clothing stores
