I’m excited to launch a new series called “Fashion In,” where I delve into how fashion connects with film, art, history, music, and beyond.
To kick things off, I wanted to start with one of the movies I recently watched on Pluto TV—a film I’ve seen countless times and never tire of. This movie, Mommie Dearest, is, in my opinion, a classic. It tells the story of actress Joan Crawford, her journey in the entertainment industry, and her experience adopting two children.
As I revisited the film, I found myself paying closer attention to her classic styles. These outfits left an impression on me because of their stylish and timeless details. One standout element that caught my eye—and that I’m inspired to incorporate into my wardrobe this month—is her use of brooches.
With that in mind, here is one of my favorite brooch looks from the movie.

Styling Brooches
Inspired by Mommie Dearest, brooches provide a creative style to enhance an outfit, perfect for wearing on a:

A single statement brooch on the lapel elevates a blazer or a jacket to a chic, high-fashion style.

I adore how a brooch keeps a scarf perfectly in place but adds a touch of timeless elegance.
My Favorite Brooch Pieces
Here are a few items I’m excited to add to my collection that I discovered on the Temu website.

Conclusion
Mommie Dearest showcases how fashion in film can be part of our style. If you’re looking to capture some of that bold, glamorous look, brooches are still widely available, not just in retail stores, but especially in thrift shops where you can find unique, vintage pieces. My suggestion? Keep an eye out for these treasures when you thrift.
